Windlab’s Central Queensland Super Hub (CQSH) is a large-scale renewable energy precinct that represents a major step forward in delivering clean, reliable, and affordable energy to support Australia’s clean energy transition.
Situated on the traditional lands of the Bidjara Peoples, this multi-gigawatt wind, solar and battery energy storage development is planned to meet critical energy demand from 2030 onwards, and support Queensland’s shift toward a more sustainable energy future.
Designed to integrate with existing land uses, including agriculture, CQSH aims to deliver long-term benefits to local communities and industries. The project is expected to play a key role in strengthening the electricity grid and building regional resilience.
Our area of investigation is located on the traditional lands of the Bidjara people, spanning the Barcaldine and Blackall-Tambo local government areas. The project will coexist with several host properties’ long-established cattle operations.
By strategically developing complementary wind, solar and battery projects alongside the region’s foundational agricultural industry, CQSH aims to maximise land use, support positive outcomes for local communities, and enable efficient energy supply to the grid when it’s needed the most.
The success of our business relies on strong, long-term relationships, and the delivery of equitable benefits that make an enduring, positive legacy for local people living in regional and rural Australia.
Windlab has been working with key regional stakeholders to build an understanding of local priorities, while validating the region’s renewable energy resource potential and completing early due diligence studies to support informed and confident community engagement.
As the project develops, community engagement is expanding — with more boots on the ground, deeper conversations, and growing opportunities for local participation. Our focus is to support the community to participate in the development process to shape the CQSH, informed by local insight and shared aspirations.
We believe there’s a better way to deliver renewable energy — one that starts with listening, learning, and working hand in hand with communities, landholders and Traditional Owners.
Our development process is iterative and unfolds over several years. It is guided by rigorous technical, environment, and socio-economic studies, alongside ongoing engagement with stakeholders to ensure decisions are informed, balanced, and backed by science.
We’re committed to raising the bar on renewables — delivering meaningful, equitable outcomes and managing change in a way that respects people, protects Country, and leaves a positive legacy.
Windlab is Australia’s renewable energy pioneer.
For over 20 years, we have set new standards in the development and construction of clean energy infrastructure through an unwavering commitment to balance the needs of our stakeholders, community, Country, and the environment.
As owners and operators of some of Australia’s most significant renewable energy projects, we know how important it is to keep raising the bar and delivering meaningful value for all — ultimately making renewables the easy choice for our future.
